Purpose

To update organizational policies concerning suicide prevention, to develop consensus (among organizational leaders and staff) concerning specific ways the training applies to departments and individuals in the "actual" work context, and create a Suicide Response Chart with detailed procedures for preventing and addressing suicide-related incidents.

Benefits of tools

The Suicide Prevention Chart Guide will help your organization create a diagram outlining key information and procedures to follow when responding to suicide risk.  The Gatekeeper Action Plan Discussion Guide facilitates conversation and a collective understanding among managers and front-line staff about expectations and action plans for ongoing suicide prevention.

Time requirements

A key leader or upper-level manager can develop a suicide prevention chart in as little as hour.  However, staff should be included in the process whenever possible--with staff input the process may take 2-4 hours.  The Gatekeeper Action Plan Discussion should take 90 to 120 minutes to complete.
